Wait for Apple 3G iPhone is finally over
THE Apple Store may have been the focus for Mac fans last month, but the launch of the 3G iPhone was all about the phone companies.

Vodafone, Optus and Telstra all today launched the next-generation 3G iPhone, the first of Apple’s iconic handsets to be released in Australia after more than a year of anticipation. In Sydney this morning hundreds of people queued outside Vodafone and Telstra stores for their early-morning openings, after Optus began handing out iPhones to fans at midnight.
It was a lower-key affair at Telstra’s flagship T (life) store two blocks away, where a line of Apple fans queued around the corner and passed through the shop in groups of three or four. Directly across the road, about 150 people decked in heavy coats and sleeping bags camped outside the official Apple Store – which was not due to open until 8am.
The three networks have reported hundreds of thousands of pre-sale enquiries about the iPhone, with demand likely to outstrip supply. Vodafone Queensland general manager Cameron Levick yesterday warned Brisbane customers that some iPhone fans were likely to miss out. “I think some people are going to be disappointed, and that’s unfortunate,” Mr Levick said. “There is really, really limited stock for the first couple of weeks and a lot of that is because Apple is launching in so many countries at once.”
